Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine was established by Article 2 of Law No. 5467, which entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette dated March 17, 2006, and numbered 2611. On November 22, 2007, Prof. Selim ERENTÜRK, Faculty Member of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Istanbul University Institute of Cardiology, was appointed as the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

With the commencement of the first Dean's duties, work began on the building previously under construction as the University Medical and Social Center at our University's Çağış Campus. Necessary additions and revisions were made to the project to make the building suitable for the Faculty of Medicine and the Health Application and Research Center Hospital.

In our Faculty, where “Doctor of Medicine” education began with the first 41 students admitted in the 2009-2010 Academic Year, Currently, a total of 850 Medical Doctorate students are enrolled in Semesters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, while 279 Medical Specialization students are receiving medical education in various departments as research assistants. Our Faculty awarded its first “Doctor (Physician)” degrees (31 individuals) on July 3, 2015. Currently, there are 33 Professors, 58 Associate Professors, 53 Assistant Professors, and 1 Lecturer, totaling 145 faculty members at our Faculty.
