Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine was established by Article 2 of Law No. 5467, which entered into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette dated March 17, 2006, and numbered 2611. It commenced medical education in the 2009-2010 academic year with the first 41 students admitted.
The building project, which was previously started as the University Medical and Social Center at our university's Çağış Campus, has been modified and revised as necessary to make it suitable for the Faculty of Medicine and the Health Application and Research Center Hospital.
The Health Application and Research Center Hospital began operating in its new building in 2013 with a total capacity of 287 beds, including 238 wards and 49 intensive care beds. As of 2023, within the scope of renovation and expansion works, construction has begun on buildings with a capacity of 64 beds with the support of donors and 124 beds with 100 services and 24 intensive care units with the resources of our Rectorate. The Health Application and Research Center Hospital, which will continue to serve with a capacity of 475 beds, will remain the shining face of our University and Faculty of Medicine.
In May 2017, our Faculty moved to the newly constructed Morphology Building. With 148 faculty members, 290 research assistants, 26 administrative staff, and 955 students, it continues to provide education and training services in this building, having graduated 80 students in the 2022-2023 academic year.
